The City of Sails

After a pleasant and totally uneventful trip (thankfully) we arrived in Auckland at lunchtime on Monday, ready to explore! The kids and I haven't really seen anything else than the airport in Auckland before.

Granddad had booked us into an apartment hotel in the middle of town.
It was a big apartment, with room for all six of us - and with amazing views in three directions, we could see both the Bridge and the Sky Tower clearly from our sofa. Although Lucas was most just impressed with the fact that "we had a kitchen in our hotel room"! :)

On that first afternoon we wandered down to the Marina and had a fab late lunch in the harbour. I have a feeling this holiday will be a lot about eating, and drinking, and eating... There is just so much to choose from, so much yummy food!
We then had a quick browse along Queen Street, the main drag in Auckland. Unfortunately not really leasure shopping, it was more about some pressing clothing issues, as the weather is quite unpredictable this time of the year. Linnea had grown out of all her long trousers since our last trip, so we had to sort that out!

Later on we met up with an old friend we realized we hadn't seen in about five years, Jonno. It was really good to catch up again. We went to a famous Belgian restaurant, enjoyed a couple of kilos of steamed mussels and a few drinks. New Zealand wines... mmm!

This holiday has started off great for sure!
