The very last!
We had fabulous sunshine today, and the kids wanted to be outside in the afternoon to enjoy the last of the snow. The very, very last, there really isn't much left. We just have one long big pile where it has been sliding off the roof earlier.
The kids still managed to have fun, and you can say they are really enjoying the winter until the end!

Egg painting
Before our Easter dinner today, we enjoyed some Easter egg painting. The kids took on their assignment with great passion. They were so concentrated, and they had lots of fun!

Påskafton
Easter is such a lovely holiday. Compared to Christmas, the pressure is off a bit, not so much stress about gifts and stuff. Although the kids were exhilarated this morning when they discovered Easter Bunny had found them in Sweden too, and brought a GIGANTIC Easter egg full of presents, and goodies!
Easter is more about the lovely food, being together and just enjoying the spring and the lovely weather. Today we are really spoiled with clear skies and a warming sun, it's absolutely fantastic!
We dressed the kids this morning ready for the Easter Parade in town. They have never really taken part in the Swedish Easter traditions like this before, so they thought it was very amusing. They turned out great in their outfits, and make-up!

Easter Parade
It was two very excited Easter dressed children going to town earlier today, to take part in the Easter Parade.
They probably didn't know too much what to expect, as it was their first experience with påskkärringar and påskgubbar. They were very eager though, big steps:
Thanks to the absolutely gorgeous warm and sunny weather, it was so many people gathered. Lots of children in Easter dress-up, and their parents and grand-parents:
Hällekis Musikkår, a local marching band, was playing to celebrate spring, and the kids digged the music, especially Lucas who was dancing along:

Here they are, ready to march off behind the band, in the Easter parade:
Off they went! They walked all around the center of town, and although there were tons of adults in the parade with their kids, there was also a lot of spectators along the way:
And when we came back to where we started from, it was time to get up on stage and receive an Easter goodie bag:
- "Tack och Glad Påsk!" (=Thank you and Happy Easter!)

Cultural afternoon
Mormor and I decided to test the kids' patience a bit today, and went on an 'Art journey' ("Konstrunda i påsk"). It's a tradition at Easter in this area (Hornborga området), lots of different art galleries and studios not far from each other hold exhibitions, big and small.
I had never visited any of these galleries before, and thought it could be a nice thing to do!
We chose a few that looked interesting, out of the 38 different stops you could make. There was so many different artists represented; displays of paintings in acrylic paint, in water colour, jewelery, textile art, ceramics, glass art, photography, flower arrangements, silver art, mosaics etc etc, you name it.
In the end, we managed to visit eight different expos. But to be honest, the kids mostly waited in the car as it was quick stops.

Mormor bought something already at the second stop we did, a ceramic green apple to add to her collection of apples and pears. It was so shiny and beautiful!
These next two photos were taken outside the studio and expo of one of the more known artists from the area, Leiif Holgersson. I got a print of his, a beautifully coloured painting of some cranes. Felt very "home" to me, and we are in desperate need of things for our walls in our house.

This next one, is exciting! This is the house Mormor lived in when she was a little girl! It was "open" today, because there is now an artist living there. We talked a little bit with her, and got to come inside and have a look how the house had been extended and changed, since Mormor lived there.
I must say, they had managed to keep a lot of the old feel to the house, which I found rather charming.
This used to be the stable, and now the lady uses it as her gallery:
We also made a stop at this place, where the kids were in close encounter with some woolly lambs. They really enjoyed that!
All in all a lovely afternoon. We had brought the PSP and the DS just in case, but the kids were actually rather good, even without too many bribes..!

Lake Hornborga
We finished our road trip today at Lake Hornborga, which is famous for providing a resting place for a large flock of cranes every time this year. Both bird watchers and ordinary folk come from near and far to look at these masses of cranes.
The cranes spend the winter in Extremadura in southern Spain and make Lake Hornborga their last stop before they set off for their different breeding grounds all around Sweden. They stay at Lake Hornborga for about 2-3 weeks.
We brought our binoculars and joined the other bird watchers along the fences towards the cranes' resting and feeding places. The kids were fascinated by this huge amount of birds, there were birds for as long as the eye could reach. "Into infinity!!" as Lucas said!
Today's count was 9400 birds.
They are counted at dusk, using binoculars, when they all leave their feeding places and fly into the lake to sleep. You can see some earlier statistics here.

Easter cake
Linnea was helping Mormor making an Easter cake this morning. At least it was meant to be an Easter cake but turned in to some kind of mix between an Easter one (the marzipan chickens) and a more summery strawberry cake, as Linnea insisted on putting strawberries on top!

New dos
Linnea's hair is growing, slowly, and it's finally long enough to try out some new dos. Well, at least when Missy feels like it...
The last few days she has actually been happy for me to put her hair up in plaits. She is looking so cute:
