The summer hit

Normally the hit of the summer, at least on the Swedish radio stations, would be the recent winner from the Eurovision Song Contest. Last years song of the summer that got totally overplayed, was the Norwegian song 'Fairytale', with Alexander Rybak.
But it seems like this years winner (Lena from Germany) hasn't quite hit it home with the Swedes? Instead, it was this song we heard every time we tuned in to the radio, over and over again during our 2010 road trips:

Song of the summer

The song of this summer vacation will have to be "Fairytale" by and with Alexander Rybak. It was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest for this year, and he's from Norway.
Even though Nathan really didn't take to this song at all, that didn't stop it from getting played on the radio over and over (and over...) again during our roadtrip around Sweden. No matter which radio channel we tuned in to - there it was!

Here you get it in a double whammy version; the video is from the performance he did in the "Allsång på Skansen" show this summer. (Allsång på Skansen is an 'institution' in the Swedish summer!)

Valborgsmässoafton

Tonight it's Walpurgis Eve, another holiday when I become a bit extra homesick. I know I say this about nearly every holiday (...) but some really are closer to my heart.

At Walpurgis Eve we light bonfires and gather together, usually there is a choir that will entertain with songs to welcome spring. I have quite a few very nice memories of Walpurgis Eve celebrations I have attended here and there through the years, but this year I will have to enjoy it via the internet. This is my favourite spring song:

I wish

Since my last post with this guy, my friend V in Hong Kong has been hooked too. She tried to convince me to come up there on Monday for his concert - but my economic conscience (read: my husband) said no unfortunately.
I really wish I could...

I have to share another clip I found with him, where he not only sings one of my favourites, but he does it accompanied only by his guitar; while walking about in the most beautiful city in the world, Paris. (It's the lively area of Beaubourg, where I myself used to spend many afternoons while living there many moons ago...). Enjoy!

I found a CD yesterday with remixes of his songs, mostly a cappella or in very subtle arrangements. We played it during the school run this morning, and get this - the kids were quiet and just listened, ALL the way to school!! Fantastic!

The official start

Sixteen years ago when I was an Au Pair in Paris, I got the holidays off and came home for Christmas. I had wished for only one thing for Christmas: a CD with Christmas music by Lars Vegas Trio. This group was a Swedish music- and comedy group that played covers of well known hits, in a very high tempo. I had been to a concert with them that previous summer, and when they had a Christmas CD coming out - I know I wanted it!

Ever since then, Christmas starts officially for me the first time I put on that CD. That's my favourite Christmas CD by far, even though it is a bit quirky. It is a big part of my Christmas traditions! I listen to it over and over again every year in the weeks up to Christmas - and today, was this year's official start!

Erika - this one is for you!

Just have to...

I heard this song on the radio while driving around the other day, and I haven't been able to shake it since. I know I have heard it before, but this time for some reason it's just stuck - it's so beautiful, the melody, the reggae beat, the sound and the lyrics... I just have to share it with you:
